FOCUSING

Clara finds Focusing to be a wonderful addition to BCST and it assists in deepening the experience of healing work. She is involved in ongoing Focusing Training and assists in Focusing workshops. Focusing is a therapeutic enquiry developed by Dr. Eugene Gendlin. It is a powerful process or inquiry that can become a great resource both during traumatic activation and in general session work.  In the 1950’s Gendlin discovered after extensive research into the therapeutic process, that certain clients improved greatly where as others did not. It did not seem to matter what kind of therapy was offered, or even the theories involved. Patients got better not because of the type of therapy employed, but because of something that they were doing internally. Based on these findings, Gendlin developed “Focusing” which is to enter into a special kind of awareness, different from our everyday experience, centered on present time awareness and sensations in our body that can reveal important information that can contribute to deeper understanding and healing.  Practitioners are able to assist clients in this territory that is not just physical, but is composed of sensations, emotional tones, feeling senses and even images. It is the whole bodily sense of something. It is an expression of how we embody our experience which holds great meaning and insight and assists greatly in one’s healing process.
